Leaders at Wycliffe
There are many, many leaders at Wycliffe! - at least 100 volunteers take part in running and leading the many week-day groups and youth groups.
The core leadership team is called the Church Council. The Church Council is made up of Pastors, Elders and Deacons. Here is some information about some of them:

Laura Eades Elder, Lead on pastoral care and prayer |
I've lived in Reading for 28 years and have been at Wycliffe since 1995. My last proper job was as Head of Childrens Social Care at Reading Borough Council in 2005 and now I have a consultancy business working with agencies that provide services for children and young people particular around keeping them safe. I love my Church - it is a place where I can really be myself as God made me and I am grateful for the patient but mildly exasperated tolerance of my family. I love my car, tea of any variety, 70's rock and any soul music. I can't stand tailgaters, wrestling and the smell of cat food. |
Rupert Peskett Property Deacon. |
I first came to Wycliffe Church as a teenager, when I joined the youth group, shortly after becoming a Christian. I am now part of a group of people who keep an eye on the maintainance of the buildings that we have here. We aim to keep all of our rooms as attractive and welcoming places for the many church and community groups that meet here throughout the week. |
Andrew Waugh Pastor/Team Leader |
Andrew has lived in Reading since 1978. He's been one of the pastors at Wycliffe since 1991 and became Pastor/Team Leader in 2000. He is married to Denise, a supervising Community Midwife, and has three very grownup sons. He trained at London Bible College, is an accredited minister of the Baptist Union, longs for more of the Holy Spirit's power in every area of his life, and has the ambition for Wycliffe always to need more physical space. Regarding his guitar playing, he reckons he's suffered for his music, and now it's the audience's turn. On his day off he may be found DIY-ing, or with Denise, paddling their canoe on the Thames. Likes; Bach, Ry Cooder, Lasagne. Dislikes; Writing about himself. |
Patrick McElligott Pastor |
Sarah and I spent over thirty years in church planting and evangelism in Japan. We came to Reading in 1999, where I had been invited to become chaplain and senior lecturer at Gyosei International College, an associate college of Reading University. From that time we attended Wycliffe, became members and then after three years joined the eldership of the church. In 2005 I was invited to join the pastoral team to commence the 9:00am service. Sarah and I have three daughters |
Chris Elsdon Youth Team Leader |
After finishing a youth work degree in Plymouth I moved to Reading in May 2005 to join the team at Wycliffe. I have come to realize that i have the best job in the world and working alongside a fantastic team of volunteers we enjoy serving and working with the youth here at Cemetery junction. I love God, my wife, friends, films, fresh coffee, walks, music and generally being quit loud (allegedly). |
Alan Tower Chair of Church Council |
I first lived in Reading in 1988 but have been away for eight years since at Bible College and working with Latin Link in Bolivia. I now lead the Latin Link Team based in the office in London Street. I enjoy leading a Housegroup at Wycliffe, but don't get to Dad's football much anymore. Wycliffe's great for being part of a challenging Christian community. |
