Baptism **
We believe Jesus loves
it when we respond to his
command to be
baptised. For more information please contact the church office or
one of the pastors.
**
When being baptised
it’s great when people tell their
stories. But if
“making a speech” scares you, we can always find another way
for you to talk about your commitment to the Lord, so don’t be
put off.
** Next Baptismal
service will be October 19th

ALPHA Our Alpha
course will be starting this September, with an introductory meal on
Thursday 18th September, 7.30 pm in the Warehouse. Alpha is an
opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed
setting over a meal with some thought-provoking weekly talks and
discussions. Interested in coming, inviting a friend or helping out?
Let Ali Crooks know or tell Stewart in the office.
ALPHA: we can't do it
without YOU!
Only
a couple of weeks to go before our exciting Alpha course starts and
we're stuck.
The people are being invited, our team of leaders are
being trained, the resources are being ordered and the speakers are
all limbering up....BUT.....we need YOU!
‘What
can I do?’
I hear you cry! Well 3 little jobs:
***** To enable our
leaders and speakers to pray together before the Alpha evening starts
we need a team of people ready to help on a regular weekly basis to
set the church hall up, clearing the hall, setting up tables and
uplighters, moving in chairs, putting on table cloths, putting
cutlery, jugs, candles and flowers on tables. You need to be
free from 5.30pm until 7pm. The quicker it is done, the quicker
you go!
***** Thinking that's all a bit too early
for you, more of a night owl? We need a clear away team weekly
to help stack chairs, move uplighters, clear cups etc. after the
discussion groups, freeing our leaders to take that important
opportunity to chat to the guests. The help is needed from
9.40pm until the job is done (around 10.15pm)
**** Thinking that's
great but it's just not for me...I'm no 'lifter and carrier'...we
have just the opportunity for you. Like to sit around, watching
something lulling? Enjoy that 'fresh' smell: why not wash
our tablecloths? Alpha can generate up to 20 dirty
tablecloths each Thursday night. These need to be washed and
dried before the next Thursday. We're looking for a team of
people with washer/dryers who can take home ideally 4 tablecloths
(that's all a machine can hold!!!) each Thursday and have them washed
and returned to the Warehouse by 5pm the following Thursday. If
it's not done, the leaders end up trying to do that as well!!!
We
really can't do it without YOU! If you can help with any of this let
Ali Crooks or Stewart know
CommuniCare will
offer a listening and befriending service between 11 am and 1pm every
Wednesday. For more information, call CommuniCare on 926 3941.
Door Knocking round
Newtown If you would like to join a team of people who are
knocking on people’s doors in Newtown introducing the church then
meet up in the Warehouse Foyer. The plan is to meet at 5.30 pm, pray
and then go out to Newtown returning in time for the evening service.
Don’t worry about lack of experience - you’ll work in teams and
get some training. For more details contact Debbie Lambie
Welcomers
Needed Would you like
to welcome people to our church? We have some vacancies on our
welcoming rota for evening and morning services. All you need is a
nice smile, a firm handshake and be able to arrive 30 minutes or so
before the service starts. Generally the rota means that you would be
‘on’ once every 2-3 months. Students, you can be rota’d around
the holidays so don’t let that put you off. Dads and lads, Mothers
and daughters are also very welcome. It’s a really important job as
it is the first contact that many people have with our church and a
nice welcome helps so much to put people at ease. If you can help,
contact Stewart on 929 9911 or
stewart@wycliffe-church.org.uk.
Thanks!
